Big Win for the Shrimp Industry: Trade Relief Secured
In a major victory for the shrimp industry, Leake Andersson partner Eddy Hayes and a skilled legal team achieved a significant milestone for domestic producers. Representing the American Shrimp Processors Association (ASPA), the team successfully obtained Antidumping and Countervailing Duties on imported shrimp from Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The International Trade Commission (ITC) voted unanimously, 5-0 in favor of firm client ASPA, to impose trade relief affirming that unfairly dumped and subsidized shrimp imports were causing material injury to the U.S. domestic shrimp industry. As a result, the ITC vote affirms duties ranging from 2.24% to 221.82%. These measures affect over $5 billion worth of imported shrimp, delivering substantial trade relief to the domestic market.
This decision helps ensure fair competition, safeguarding American shrimp producers and supporting the long-term health of the domestic industry. It is a significant step toward leveling the playing field for U.S. shrimp producers facing unfair trade practices.
