GNO Martinet’s Jazz Brunch and Scholarship Gala

Firm News

“Leake Attorneys Alex Tilling (Partner), Megan Haynes (Associate), and Jamie Hickey (Associate) attended The Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Society’s Annual Jazz Brunch & Scholarship Gala at The Higgins Hotel on Saturday, September 24, 2022. The Louis A. Martinet Society was founded on May 13, 1957 by several legal pioneers in the legal community with the goal of creating a professional legal organization for African American attorneys for professional support, along with mobilizing the necessary skills and training to combat racial injustices and inequities during that time. The legal organization was founded in honor of Louis A. Martinet, who was the first African American graduate of Straight University Law School in 1876. Louis A. Martinet was an attorney, educator, journalist, medical doctor and a key civil rights activist.

The Jazz Brunch and Scholarship Gala is an opportunity to gather in celebration and continue the mission of the Society’s founders, as well as honor current day legal pioneers in the community. The Gala is also an opportunity to highlight and award the young and up and coming generation of the legal profession by recognizing undergraduate students and law students who uphold and embody the Society’s mission. This past Saturday was a special occasion because we celebrated 65 years of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society being in existence. It was an honor to be a part of such a great event and great cause.”
